Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!

Owing to my Louisiana ties I most definitely made sure to consume not one but TWO king cakes this mardi gras season. Lucky for me and my waistline (not) my best friend was so kind as to drive these precious mounds of sugar 300 miles for me.

I may or may not fantasize about this sugar covered delicacy in my spare time. They are usually filled with flavors like cream cheese or apple, or just about anything your heart desires. The baby is stuck inside the cake randomly so that whoever gets it has "good luck" or most likely has to bring the next king cake. We ate these bad boys at least once a week for 2 months in high school which was fabulous.

This cake was from whole foods and it was okay tasting, but they did include this awesome bean which made me feel like I was in a magical children's fairy tale or something. Pretty neat all around.

Do you celebrate Mardi Gras in your neck of the woods or does it just sound a little absurd?

  6. oh how neat, a bean cake! the only time i have ever celebrated this holiday was when i was in 2nd grade. a girl in my class had just transferred from new orleans and wanted to celebrate with our class. she brought us in a "bean cake" and whoever got the bean would be king/queen. i remember her whispering to me that i had the bean in my cake, and i was "queen" for the day. it was darling. mardi gras is so neat!
